Addressing the Shortages of Environmental Health Officers

A report commissioned to look at what difficulties there were for local authorities in the East of England to recruit and retain EHOs indentified a significant problem.

The report also highlighted a number of areas to help authorities get EHOs. A strong correlation was identified between those authorities that offer work experience in EHO to students and authorities who experienced less of a problem in recruiting and retaining professionals.



A website to promote the profession to students and to encourage them to undertake work experience with local authorities was launched and a pack for careers advisors was also distributed.
