Guiding Principles - Subject Matter Experts

BPI and Transformation Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) are members of our BPI and Transformation Peer Network who have hands-on experience and expertise in BPI or Transformation topics of interest. As part of our drive for internal skills transfer, these individuals have offered to share their expertise with the region. They may be contacted for advice and input on their areas of expertise, subject to some guiding principles.

1. SMEs provide their input free of charge to other BPI Peer Network members

2. Only BPI Peer Network members are invited to participate in the exchange with SMEs either as SMEs or as customers of SMEs (to join the Network contact BPI programme manager)

3. SMEs self-regulate the provision and deployment of their resource. (As a guideline for the time input per 6 months is no more than 3 days equivalent whether one on one or as part of a wider workshop or plenary session for the Network)

4. SMEs may opt out of the internal skills transfer mechanism at any time by removing their details from Improvement East website (contact BPI programme manager)

5. Anyone who is considering becoming an SME will need to contact the BPI programme manager with their personal details, their subject details, and their agreement to having their details published by Improvement East - appointment is at the discretion of the programme manager

6. Area of expertise or Subject Matter should be around BPI, Transformation or Change project and programmes and may be organisation, service or function specific  - preference is for Subject Matters that may not be accessed from desk research and may only result from hands-on experience

7. Anyone wanting to "pull" on the expertise of an SME needs to log their requirement with IE BPI programme manager and then contact the SME direct.   The role of the BPI programme manager is to nature and frequency of demand

8. SME may be required to provide a few paragraphs on their expertise

9. Network peer members who use the internal skills transfer are encouraged to provide an area of expertise in exchange for input from existing SMEs
