Improvement East is supporting authorities in the East of Engalnd to tackle to challenges faced by climate change. Adaptation and mitigation are both major issues in our region and a programme of work is currently being developed by Improvement East to reflect this.
We are working with Climate East, the East of England Climate Change Partnership, and the East of England Local Authority Climate Change Forum to ensure that climate change support is strongly coordinated regionally.
David Webb is a Programme Manager for Climate East, focusing on local authority climate change activity. Visit the Climate East website at www.climate-east.org.uk
climate change skills fund
In March 2010, the Minister for Local Government, Rosie Winterton MP, awarded each Regional and Efficiency Partnership an additional £1million for a Climate Change Skills Fund. This funding is for the following:
- facilitating the delivery of increased renewable energy supply through the activities of local authority planning departments
- helping local authorities more broadly, including training for members
- allowing planning departments to promote better community engagement in the planning process, including on renewable energy
Improvement East will continue to work with Climate East, to develop a programme of work for the East of England. This programme will be shaped by the priorities set out in the Climate East Path to Low Carbon and build on existing initiatives and best practice in the region.
